Here is our overview for Term 3. Enjoy!
It has been a wonderful term and we have had a packed couple of weeks with lots of highlights. I think we are all ready for a break. I hope that you all have a wonderful Spring Break. I hope you can enjoy lots of sunshine and fresh air.
Just wanted to pass on some dates to note for after the break because we have a few things coming up right as we return to school.
Sunday, March 20th - Honors Concert at the Sagebrush. Students are to be dropped off at 1:30, wearing all black.
Monday, April 4th - No School. Students return on Tuesday, April 5th this year.
Thursday, April 7th - Early Dismissal at 12:30pm. Come to our classroom open house from 12:30 to 2:30. Students will show off their Rube Goldberg gumball machines from science and you will have a chance to talk with myself and Mrs. Huffman about your child's progress.
I hope to see you all at the Honors Concert and our Open House on the 7th.

This afternoon I sent home an important letter explaining that we have been invited to
perform at the Festival of Performing Arts Honors Concert. Please read it over with your child and return it if your child can attend. This is a really amazing opportunity and I would love for
everyone to be there!
P.S. I also posted a letter here for you to download if necessary!
Check out the slides we created to showcase the poems we wrote over the past few months.

On March 2nd at 9am, we will be travelling to Calvary Community Church to perform a poetry piece at the Kamloops Festival of Performing Arts. Parents are welcome to attend and see us perform for $2.00 per person. However, please note that this is a traditional speech arts performance and strict expectations of audience decorum will be enforced by festival volunteers. We will also be performing at school on Friday, February 26th at 9am in the gym. This performance is free of charge and will be more casual. We would love to see you come and enjoy one of the performances.
Students will need to wear black clothing without logos or graphics on March 2nd so that we all match. They also need permission slips signed and returned as we will be taking a bus up to Aberdeen.
I appreciate your supporting our class in participating in this. I believe that all students should have the opportunity to participate in the arts. Also, I am happy and excited to pass on my love of drama and performing to my students. If you have any questions, please let me know!
As always, thank you so much for your support.

Just an update to fill you in some activities coming up next week that we have taken on to help raise money for families who are impoverished in Nicaragua. As part of Social Studies we have to look at the living conditions of different people around the world. As such, I showed the students a short video about families to who subsist off of what they can scavenge from the El Limonal garbage dump in Nicaragua. The class agreed that we would like to try to do something to help these families. So we are undertaking some fundraisers to help with the purchase of the food hampers that will be given out on Spring Break by a group of people from visiting Nicaragua from Kamloops.
Wednesday, Feb 10th – Bake Sale
We are looking for baked goods to sell at our Bake Sale on February 10th. Items such as squares, cookies, muffins and cupcakes are great choices. Please support us by sending in baked goods on the morning of February 10th.
Alternatively, you could send some change ($1.00) with your child to purchase an item at the Bake Sale.
Friday, Feb 12th – Dance
We are hosting a Valentines Day as a fundraiser. Students are asked to help with running the dance. As part of the dance, we will have a coffee cart for teachers. For this, a few students have been asked to bring some baked treats to sell to teachers. Also, we need some prizes to raffle off at the dance. Please send in one small prize to put into a raffle basket for an elementary aged child. Students who attend the dance can buy a raffle ticket for $1 and then choose which basket they would like to try to win.
Thank you for supporting us in our fundraisers. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Happy New Year!
I hope everyone had a restful and happy break. Here is glance at what we will be working on in Term 2. I also wanted to let you know that I now require students to have their agendas signed by parents on a nightly basis. This is a result of students needing more assistance to stay organized. We are working towards staying more organized as our New Year’s Resolution. Thank you for your support in this manner.
Also, a few quick reminders about upcoming events:

Health and Career:
Just a note about a Christmas activity we are planning for next week. We have decided to have a Secret Santa in our class. Everyone has drawn a name of a student in the class and will give a $5 to $10 present to that person. We will exchange gifts on Thursday, December 17th. It is important to me that everyone participate as I really emphasize our being a community together. As a result, if a student is not able to bring a present in, I will have some at school and he/she will be able to choose one to give to his/her classmate. This means that everyone, including myself, will give and receive a gift.
Thanks for you support in this. If you have any questions or concerns let me know.
Just a note keep you in the loop about a few things.
1. I apologize for the late notice, but we have early dismissal this Friday, December 4th. We are out at 12:30. This allows me some time to have some time for parent meetings. If you would like to meet to see how you child is doing, please let me know we can book at time during Friday afternoon.
2. We are busy practising for the Christmas play. The performances are December 10th and 11th at 1:15pm. We ask that you arrive at 1:00pm to be seated in the gym and stay for the whole performance.
3. This year we are collecting some items to create baskets to raffle off at the Christmas play. The basket themes are coffee and tea, chocolate lover, spa and kid's crafts. Please consider sending an item or two that could fit into that category.
4. I have booked some times to go skating as a class. Please check to see if you child has a skates or could borrow a pair from someone you know. We do have some at the school, but not enough for everyone. We are going on Dec 12th and 18th. And then again on January 8th. Also, I would love it if some parent helpers could join us, so check your calendars and let me know if you are interested. Thanks!
